The philosophy of the Learning Alternatives program is that
learning takes place on many levels. To meet the learners'
needs on all these levels teachers must be able to attend
to students' needs for emotional safety, as well as their
intellectual curiosity. This can be accomplished through
smaller classes, more student choice, and a greater
diversity of learning methods. Each student must be valued
as a person with his or her own unique talents and skills.
Through the mutually respectful relationship between
teacher and student, students who otherwise might struggle
with academics can often flourish.
