WEDNESDAY~ EARLY RELEASE PATHS STUDENTS RELEASED AT 9:05 AND PICKED UP @ 9:10 FOR LATE BUS STOPS
THURSDAY & FRIDAY WILL BE HALF-DAYS FOR PATHS STUDENTS ONLY. PATHS STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 10:40 FOR BUSES HOME.
Juniors and Seniors needed for a new mentoring program for freshmen homebases. Meet with freshmen homebases every few weeks to make connections, to support them during their first year here at SPHS. You can make a huge difference in their experience, and you will find your interaction rewarding. You may work in PAIRS if you so wish. Meet with Mr. Romanow in room 225 TODAY, at 2:00 to sign up.
The annual library book swap is the week of March 31st. Donate your good used books to the library for the book swap cart, and take books that you want from the cart starting March 31st.
GUIDANCE
College of the Atlantic is offering a summer program focusing on ecology and the culture of Down East Maine. This program will take place at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine from August 2-14. They are offering a $500 scholarship to one student from South Portland High School. Please see Mrs. King if you'd like to be considered for this program.
Also, please check the Summer Programs File in Guidance for a look at the many summer programs that are offered by colleges and universities across the country.
The U.S. Marine Corps visit to Guidance has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 25th at 9:30 AM. Sergeant Reyes would like to meet with interested juniors and seniors. Passes are available in the Guidance Office.

Attention seniors: if you still are undecided about your plans after graduation, the Guidance Department has arranged an excellent opportunity for you. We will be taking undecided seniors to SMCC on April 3rd for an On the Spot Admissions Day. You will receive a great deal of assistance in applying as well as help on how to pay for your education at SMCC. The application fee will be waived and lunch will be served to those students that choose to attend the On the Spot Application day scheduled for Thursday, April 4th. See your guidance counselor for more details right away.
UPCOMING OPEN HOUSES
Central Maine Community College will host an Open House on Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. ~ 1:00 p.m.
Southern Maine Community College will host their Open House on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 12 ~ 3:30 p.m.
ATHLETICS
Practices and try-outs for JV and Varsity Baseball, all levels of Softball, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Boys and Girls Track and Field, and Boys and Girls Tennis will begin on Monday, March 31st.
There will be a meeting for all those intending to play Golf this fall in Room 26 at 2:00 today.
Boys Tennis: Practice begins next Monday, March 31.
Music Notes
Clubs and Intramurals
(primal scream) Due to a lack of enthusiasm and overall glee, the deadline for entry into the South Portland High School Film Festival has been pushed back one week. Entries are now due by Friday, March 28th. Traipse over to the Video Production room to pick up entry forms and drop off your films. Please do this. Voe skall garandera sivis.
There will be a History Club meeting on Thursday, March 27th after school. This meeting will determine who the club's "student of the year" will be, so all members please attend.
Spanish Club students going to Small School on Tuesday please meet briefly in Sra. Esten's room after school on Monday to plan.
There will be a Spanish Club meeting on Wednesday directly after school in Sra. Esten's room (117.) We need to vote on days for Movie Night, we need to decide if we are having a Cinco de Mayo fiesta and we may have Latin Dance options to discuss.
All NHS members are reminded that the induction ceremony is Wed, April 2nd at 6:00 in the auditorium. New inductees are encouraged to invite their families and current NHS members are asked to make sure to induct at least one new member. The sign up sheet for doing this is in room 230. There will be an NHS officers meeting this Thursday at 2:00 in room 230.
Attention Juniors: Beginning this spring, there is a wonderful opportunity for any junior interested in firefighting. If you are interested in being a firefighter with the South Portland Fire Department and you are a junior, please see Mr. Jandreau as soon as possible to find out more about this exciting opportunity!
There will be NO Chinese Club meeting today. Next meeting will be Tuesday, April 1, same time, same place.
The Break dance club will meet in the breeze way at 11:00 on Wednesday.
