The Library is having its annual BOOK SWAP on March 31st. Students and staff donate your good used books to the Library BOOK SWAP. Starting March 31st take any book you want from the BOOK SWAP cart.

Members of the Student Judicial Court will meet with Mr. Romanow in room 225 on Thursday from 2 until 3 o'clock for final preparations for the implementation of the Student Judicial Court. In order for you to serve on the court, you must be in attendance. THIS MEETING IS MANDATORY.

Attention Students and Staff!
The SPHS Student Senate will be conducting a raffle this week.
The raffle winner will take home a sleek and exciting IPOD Shuffle! Tickets are $1 each and are available in the main office. Don’t pass up this amazing opportunity. Buy your tickets today! All proceeds will benefit the student senate.

Key Club will be holding a fundraising campaign called "Pennies for Patients" to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which conducts research and supports patients afflicted with these blood cancers. We need your help! Containers will be set up in the main office and cafeteria, so please contribute any loose change you might have and help us reach our goal of $100. Thank you!

Attention seniors! The Project Graduation Cinnamon roll fundraiser is in full swing! Orders and payment are due this Thursday, March 13th! All orders can be dropped off to Ms. Major in room 121. Please support this important fundraiser and sell those cinnamon rolls!

GUIDANCE

Attention seniors: are you or your parents having a difficult time filling out financial aid forms? Help is on the way!! On Thursday, March 13th from 3-6:30 we will have 2 financial aid professionals -one form Bowdoin, one from SMCC - here to assist you in filling out the forms. See Mrs. King in Guidance to schedule an appointment

A representative from Rippleffect will be in Guidance on Thursday, March 13th from 12:30-1:30 to discuss Rippleffect's Youth Leadership Summit 2008. Two students will be selected and given a full scholarship valued at $1,500 each. THIS PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE FOR CURRENT JUNIORS ONLY

The deadlline for RYLA applications is Friday, March 14th. Please return completed applications to the Guidance Office.

SCHOLARSHIP NEWS
The deadline for the 2008 Community Volunteer Service Award and Rainbow Business and Professional Association Scholarship is March 15th.

CAREER, TECHNICAL AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE: VIRTUAL FAIR

The Maine Department of Education will be hosting a Career, Technical and Community College: Virtual Fair. The college virtual fair is available to every Maine high school junior on March 19, 2008 at www.capitalize.com/school.fair from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The website will be activated that day. The fair will include brochures, application information, on-line presentations and financial aid information. Additional information regarding the Virtual Fair is available in the Guidance Office.

UPCOMING OPEN HOUSES

Central Maine Community College will host an Open House on Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. ~ 1:00 p.m.

Southern Maine Community College will host their Open House on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 12 ~ 3:30 p.m.

The National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) is looking for students who are interested in attending their conference this summer 2008 in Washington, D.C. If you would like to be considered, please see Mrs. King or your guidance counselor.

The Portland Sea Dogs will host a college fair on April 16, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students must have a game ticket to attend the fair. Every student may get two (2) free tickets by contacting the ticket office. Over 50 private, state and community colleges will be in attendance. The Sea Dogs will also award a $500 scholarship to one student who attends during the middle of the fifth inning. More information is available in the Guidance Office.

ATHLETICS

All Students intending to participate in Spring Athletics must see Mrs. Forcella to insure that all paperwork is complete.

Girls Outdoor Track & Field Sign-up Meeting is today at 2 p.m. in Room 126. We are looking for girls who like to run, jump, or throw. If you are unable to attend, you must see Mr. Zinchuk in Room 126 before practice starts on March 31st.

Boys outdoor track - There will be a sign-up and informational meeting on Wednesday, March 12th, at 2pm in room 235 for all boys interested in outdoor track. See Coach Kahill or Coach Lupien with questions or if you cannot attend


Music Notes

All students that toured for the Disney's High School Musical should see Ms. Hosic ASAP. We wish to perform for the Lion's Club and need to confirm the March 20th date with student availability.

Clubs and Intramurals

HEMA CLUB WILL MEET TODAY AT 2:00 IN THE BREEZEWAY

The Environmental Club will meet Thursday after school at 2 p.m. in Rm. 23. We will be working in the Greenhouse, so please be prepared to get down and dirty!

Also from the Environmental Club. A reminder that students are invited to participate as part of the planning team for the citywide Earth Day Clean Up. The meeting is Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center (Teen Rm.). Earth Day is April 19. Please see Mr. Rottkov in the Learning Lab for more details.

MATH TEAM.........Final meet TODAY @ Deering High School. Bus leaves at 2:30 pm. Please sign up in rm 224 for the experience of a lifetime. Topics include Algebraic Fractions with Factoring, Trigonometric Equations and Identities, Circles and Spheres, Conics, and Arithmetic with Statistics.

Do you like dodgeball? Do you want to prove that you are the best dodgeball player of SPHS? Want to win a big trophy? Then sign up for the 1st annual Interact Dodgeball Tournament that will begin during the week of March 17th. Teams need to sign up in room 121 by Friday, March 14th. See Ms.Major or an Interact member for more details.

On Wednesday after school there will be a junior class meeting - we need to discuss Spring Fling and community service - The meeting will be in room 128.

Spanish Club Students: Please remember to bring in snacks and beverages for the Parent/Teacher Conference Bake Sale on Thursday!

Intramurals: The schedule for this week is as follows:
Dodge ball: Monday-Wednesday-Friday come on down to the gym to Dodge-Duck-Dip-Dive & Dodge! 2:10-3:30
Badminton: Tuesday & Thursday Got game? Come on down and prove it! Open to all. 2:00-3:30

Congratulations to the Drama Club for runner-up at the Regional One-Act Festival. Special commendations were awarded to Coral Sander, Katie Zeme and Sam Chatto for outstanding acting and to the technical crew for outstanding Conceptual Design and Unity in lights, set and costumes.

A National Honor Society meeting for all members is scheduled for Thursday, March 20th at 2:00 in room 230. There will also be a National Honor Society officers meeting on Wednesday March 19th at the same time in the same place. Officers are reminded to get sponsors for the raffle.
