Hello Everyone,
If you’ve driven by the high school it is very evident that the construction project is moving forward at a rapid pace. Frost walls are being pored and underground plumbing is being installed for the cafeteria, lecture hall, and new classroom space. Foundation work, which will include excavation, cement pours, and the installation of underground plumbing, will continue for the next several weeks. Piles will continue to be driven for a few more weeks as well. The slab will be poured for the floor of the cafeteria in the next week or two, and then steel will begin to be erected.
Structural demolition at the back of Beal Gym has been completed and the demising wall has been built to close the back of the gym. Rebuilding of the athletic practice fields is also underway. The fields have been skinned and underground drainage is being installed.
The OCP building has been demolished and the student parking lot is being rebuilt. The student parking lot will be ready by the end of summer. We will be able to park approximately 300 cars in the Highland Avenue and student parking lots next school year. Because there will be limited parking, parking permit stickers have been ordered to help manage parking.
During the abatement of the first floor a fountain was damaged, which resulted in water damage to the social worker offices and food preparation area of the cafeteria. The affected area has been dried out and is being repaired. Ceiling tile in the food preparation area is being replaced and the space is being thoroughly cleaned. In the social worker offices the damaged sheet rock, ceiling tile, and floor tile is being replaced. Repair work is expected to be completed in the middle of August. The student records in the social worker offices were not damaged. Abatement is expected to be finished this week.
The entrance road going past Beal Gym will continue to be closed. Public access beyond the fence is not allowed. It has been decided that the track will be closed because of safety issues this summer. It will be open for the fall athletic season.
Enjoy the great weather.
