Diversity Week 2017 is next week, March 27th-31st!

Our theme this year is: “Rights: Who’s Got ‘Em, Who Needs ‘Em.”

I am thrilled to share that this week will be jam-packed with amazing student-coordinated events, presentations, visitors, screenings, and interactive projects open to everyone’s participation. The final schedule, descriptions of events, and class sign-up form will be released on Monday afternoon (with my sincere apologies that they are coming out so late: I think we can all agree that the last few weeks have made planning tricky!), but I wanted to share a heads-up for those who like to plan ahead. Events will include…

~ Our third annual forum with members of the ELL community on their immigration experiences

~ A roundtable conversation with Mayor Patti White about South Portland’s recent resolution supporting our diverse community members

~ A presentation from the Holocaust and Human Rights Center at UMaine Augusta on how the media propagates stereotypes

~ The world’s greatest Q&A session, focused on answering all those awkward, embarrassing, or uncomfortable questions that folks might have about people with fundamentally different backgrounds or identities

…and so much more! Further details to come, thanks to your friendly neighborhood Civil Rights Team, Culture Club, and Student Senate!
