 IMPORTANT TECHNOLOGY NOTE FOR TODAY

We will be removing iMovie on many iPads (all freshman and some upper classmen)  in the next few days in order to run an important update. All students should back up any iMovie project right away to their camera roll and then plan to import them back to iMovie when we have finished the update. Any unsaved work will be lost in iMovie.

Yoga is coming to SPHS!

 Free classes for any students interested will begin on Tuesday, April 25th from 2:-3:15 in the cafe. There will be a total of eight classes held each Tuesday afternoon. Permission slips and more info will be in the main office starting tomorrow. If you have your own mat, please bring it, otherwise we will have some available to borrow. If you have other questions, please see Kara Tierney-Trevor in the social work area or Ms. Spencer, school nurse.

Sauce, Songs and SO.ME Paddling

The school store now has three local products for sale:   Red Riot Hot Sauce, Autographed Music CD’s by Dana Gross and autographed copies of Kim Bennett’s new Kayaking book!  (Music and books both generously donated)  Get them all while they are hot… (Especially the sauce!)

 NEW Learning Commons Procedure

Starting TODAY, students wishing to use the LC from workshop during 3rd Block must get a pass from Mr. Brough, Ms. Davies, or Ms. Wray. Passes from anyone else will not be accepted. Also, students using the LC during 3rd block will sign into the LC after checking in with their workshop teacher at the start of 1st lunch; students in the LC will take 4th lunch. Students with Senior Privilege are not affected by this change. Please see LC staff with any questions.

National Council of Jewish Women Selma Gleit Memorial Scholarship for Women in STEM – due April 21.

The SPHS Local Scholarship is now available on the Scholarship Box website. All seniors are strongly encouraged to complete this simple application. Deadline is April 24, 2017.

Kenneth Jordan Higgins Scholarship – due April 21, 2017

SUMMER OPPORTUNITY

Applications for the University of Maine Consider Engineering 2017 Summer Program are available at www.mainepulpaper.org. This free program is sponsored the UMaine Pulp and Paper Foundation and is a great way for high school juniors who excel at math and science to learn more about engineering, career options, and college life. Application is due May 1st.

Portland Sea Dogs College Fair

The Portland Sea Dogs will host their 10th Annual College Fair on Tuesday, May 4th from 3:00PM to 5:00PM. Every student attending the College Fair will receive two General Admission tickets to the game. One (1) $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student. South Portland Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine is hosting a Job Fair on Friday, April 14th from 5:00-7:00 PM. The event is open to all students ages 15 or older.

CITY OF SOUTH PORTLAND The City of South Portland Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for summer positions as Summer Camp Counselors & Jr. Counselors and Counselor Aides. Applications are available at the South Portland Community Center, 21 Nelson Road, S.P. or log onto their website at www.southportland.org.

CLUBS, TEAMS, MEETINGS AND INTRAMURALS

All Civil Rights Team members are encouraged to come to 325 on Monday to research and write Diversity Week question box answers. All are welcome, but Diversity Week participants are especially asked to attend.

Culture Club will be meeting this Wednesday at 2 PM in room 222.

GREAT SEASON FOR ROBOTICS

The Robotics Team had a fantastic showing at New England Championships at UNH last week. The competition was fierce, and the team experienced a long string of bad luck, but they persevered through it all. This is the end of the official season for us, but not the end of the Steamworks game, as there are many off-season events still to come
