During the month of February, students and staff are encouraged to read a book by an African-American author as part of the African-American Read-In. Please visit the Learning Commons to see a display of titles and to sign up with what book you are reading!
VALENTINE O GRAMS

If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, you are eligible to take the Introduction to a Career in Law Enforcement class at South Portland Adult Education. The class runs Tuesday nights from 5:00-7:00 p.m. starting March 20. There are only 12 seats in the class. See Mr. Brenner in Room 130 if you are interested.

Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program
Current Maine high school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for a nine-day backpacking trip in Baxter State Park in early August. This is an opportunity to study the wilderness through science, history, literature, and more. Applications are available at www.friendsofbaxterorg by the deadline of February 8.
Maine Clean Water Poster Contest
First Prize: $100.00
Who can enter? Maine Students Grades 1-12
What? A Poster no larger than 22”X28” illustrating what clean water means to you or why clean water is important to the State of Maine. Use Crayons, markers, paints or other format. (colorful posters are the judges favorites)
When? The poster is due by April 2.

The South Portland Athletic Department is raffling off a brand new Chevrolet Colorado. The winning ticket will be drawn at the final home lacrosse game of the year in May. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased in the athletic office.
REDBANK TEEN CENTER
The Teen Center at the Redbank Community Center will be re-opening next week on a limited basis. The schedule for the month of February, beginning this week will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 3-5pm
The center will be closed over February break.
The boys swimming & diving team placed 5th at the Southwesterns meet on Thursday evening. Scoring individually were Connor Hau, Viktor Maksimov, Luke Turner, Logan Kavanagh, Jesse Pearlman, Brayden Gilbert, and Sam Goodine-Doane. Sam and Jesse were t-shirt winners, placing in the top 3. Jesse was runner-up in the 1-meter diving event, and Sam was runner-up in the 100 backstroke and 3rd in the 100 freestyle. The 400 freestyle relay team of Brayden, Logan, Luke, and Sam were also t-shirt winners, placing 2nd.
