During the month of February, students and staff are encouraged to read a book by an African-American author as part of the African-American Read-In. Please visit the Learning Commons to see a display of titles and to sign up with what book you are reading!
VALENTINE O GRAMS
Tomorrow morning is the last day to buy a valentine o gram! They will be on sale today after school and tomorrow before school and that’s it! Send some chocolate and make someone’s day! They’ll be wondering why you didn’t.
If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, you are eligible to take the Introduction to a Career in Law Enforcement class at South Portland Adult Education. The class runs Tuesday nights from 5:00-7:00 p.m. starting March 20. There are only 12 seats in the class. See Mr. Brenner in Room 130 if you are interested.

Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program
Current Maine high school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for a nine-day backpacking trip in Baxter State Park in early August. This is an opportunity to study the wilderness through science, history, literature, and more. Applications are available at www.friendsofbaxterorg by the deadline of February 8.
Maine Clean Water Poster Contest
First Prize: $100.00
Who can enter? Maine Students Grades 1-12
What? A Poster no larger than 22”X28” illustrating what clean water means to you or why clean water is important to the State of Maine. Use Crayons, markers, paints or other format. (colorful posters are the judges favorites)
When? The poster is due by April 2.

Girls and Boys basketball will host quarterfinal games on Wednesday, February 14th – Girls at 6:00 p.m. and Boys at 7:30 p.m. Because this is an MPA tournament game admission will be $5 adults, $3 students/seniors and passes fro free admission will not be accepted.
The South Portland Athletic Department is raffling off a brand new Chevrolet Colorado. The winning ticket will be drawn at the final home lacrosse game of the year in May. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased in the athletic office.
REDBANK TEEN CENTER
The Teen Center at the Redbank Community Center will be re-opening next week on a limited basis. The schedule for the month of February, beginning this week will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 3-5pm
The center will be closed over February break.

Clubs, Teams and Intramurals
Latin Club will meet today AND tomorrow after school – it is critical that you be there for details about tomorrow, Wed and our upcoming trip to Boston.
Anime Club: meets today, 2/12, at 2:30pm in room 159.
Culture Club will be meeting this Wednesday at 2:30 in room 222.
ASL club is cancelled for today.
InteractThere will be an Interact meeting after school on Tuesday in the Lecture Hall. All members please attend.
Congratulations to the boys track team for its performance at the SMAA Championship on Saturday. In the Jr. Division, Nate Ellington won the shot put, Drew Lewis took 2nd in the 55m hurdles, and Alyas Ahmady, Drew Lewis, Jacob Dresser, and Oscar Sullivan placed in the relay. In the Sr. Division, Ben Sivik placed in the 55m and 200m, and he set a team record for the senior division 200m
Girls’ Track: Juliana Selser won the 800 meters in the SMAA Championships on Saturday. Anna Folley took 2nd in the Jr. 800, Rebekah Hunnewell-Dunphy 2nd in the Jr. Shot Put. The 4 x 800 Relay of Anna Folley, Kate Von Seggren, Annie Von Seggren, & Juliana Selser along with the Jr. Relay of Evelyn Selser, Jordyn Hulsey, Izzy Stocks, & Traci Francis took 3rd place at the meet. Anna Folley won the Jr. Division Most Improved Athlete, Izzy Chase won the Jim Dyer Sportswomen Award voted on by the officials, and Juliana Selser was the Most Valuable Senior Division Athlete. Jordyn Hulsey scored in 3 events as did Juliana Selser and Anna Folley while Traci Francis & Kate Von Seggren scored in two each. Great team effort out there ladies
